Tips For Walking Safely On Ice

With winter comes ice, and with ice come falls and injuries.  Here are some tips for walking safely on ice to avoid these falls:

  • Wear shoes with ice traction slip-ons or metal cleats
  • Walk with feet slightly apart and knees slightly bent to provide stability
  • Use small, shuffling steps and hold your arms out for balance if necessary
  • Walk sideways when going downhill to avoid the “skiing effect”
  • If carrying items, be sure to distribute weight evenly
  • Try using grassy or landscaped areas, which are typically less icy than sidewalks

If you would like a demonstration of these techniques or if you need help with an injury resulting from a fall, please call us at 770-578-4343.  Have a safe and healthy winter season!
